24.03.2019 – A great spectacle has characterized the opener of the renewed Speed Euroseries by Ultimate Cup Series 2019 at Estoril (P) at the end of three intense and adrenaline-full hours of racing that saw the pairing Ivan Bellarosa – Guglielmo Belotti taking the win on Wolf GB08 Tornado.
The European Championship reserved to CN cars got back on track this year thanks to the direction of Ultimate Series and V-Motor Company after the last edition that took place back in 2013. This edition kicked off from the technical Portuguese circuit of Estoril where European-level driver lineups challenged each other on cars built by some of the most important constructors of CN sports prototypes.
DB Autosport’s lineup made by Daniel Bassora (FRA), Lionel Robert (FRA) and Antoine Robert (FRA) prevailed in free practice on the #21 Norma M20. The Italian reigning champion Matteo Pollini (ITA) surprisingly got the lead in the second session, despite this being his maiden European race on the #44 Wolf GB08 Tornado shared with Mauro Deodati (ITA) and run by Avelon Formula.
Following 2019 regulations, drivers got back on track on the 4.182 meters of the Estoril racetrack for the qualifying session. The best time was posted by the Avelon Formula works drivers Ivan Bellarosa (ITA) and Guglielmo Belotti (ITA), as the first posted a best lap of 1’35.849s on the #45 Wolf GB08 Tornado. Bellarosa claimed, therefore, the pole position, proceeding the two Norma M20 driven by David Cristini (FRA) and Max Bartolami (FRA) of Krafft Racing by a good margin, and Bassora-Robert-Robert on the car run by DB Autosport.
The highly spectacular race was run on a 3-hours length. The green flag was waived in the late afternoon on Sunday with the drivers challenging each other in the most difficult time slots of the day with the sunset kicking in and visibility decreasing until the chequered flag. During the first hour the challenge involving Belotti, Lionel Robert and Bartolami was quite tight until when the first round of pit-stops shuffled the cards on track. Bellarosa and Cristini, respectively on the #45 Wolf GB08 Tornado and on the #1 Norma M20 put in an exciting neck and neck battle for the lead in the second stint. Bellarosa kept the lead but Cristini closed in voiding the margin built by the Italian. Avelon Formula’s driver defended his lead though and took the win by just 0.192s in an exciting finale.
The top 5 was rounded off by Bassora-Robert-Robert (Norma M20), with Antoine who posted the fastest lap of the race in 1’35.653s, Pollini-Deodati (Wolf GB08 Tornado) and Pigozzi-Frati on a third Wolf GB08 Tornado run by Avelon Formula.
After this exciting round, the season will continue on April 26-28th on the French circuit of Dijon-Prenois (FRA) for the second of the seven scheduled rounds. Complete information is available at www.speedeuroseries.net
